We face an unprecedented emergency
Spain is going through one of the largest emergencies due to forest fires in recent years. The simultaneity of large fires in different parts of the country, especially in the Sierra Oeste de Madrid, Ávila and Castellón, has forced a large response device to be mobilized to protect the population and care for people Affected.
Our intervention focuses on offering a safe place to evacuated people, enabling temporary shelters and providing food, water, basic necessities, health support, social care and psychosocial support. In addition, we collaborate in the organization and operation of the host spaces, we reinforce the logistics of the emergency and support the teams that work on the ground with provisioning and other essential resources.
In addition to providing accommodation, beds, blankets, Food, water and essential products, the Red Cross teams provide basic health care, psychosocial support and continuous information on the evolution of the emergency, with special attention to the elderly, minors, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. In the fires that affect these days in different parts of Spain, the organization has enabled 78 provisional shelters to welcome evicted people, thus reinforcing the protection and accompaniment network throughout the emergency.
