Emergency situation after earthquakes in Venezuela
Description

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 have seriously affected the center and west of Venezuela, especially impacting the states of Caracas, Carabobo, La Guaira, Aragua, Miranda, Yaracuy and Trujillo. Earths have led to widespread destruction of housing and infrastructure, as well as interruptions in electricity supply, communications and other basic services.

The emergency is exacerbated because earthquakes occurred at the end of the day, when many people returned to their homes, increasing the number of people trapped in the rubble. Thousands of families remain outdoors for fear of new replicas.

Childhood is one of the most affected groups. Many children have lost their homes, have been separated from their families or are exposed to greater risks of violence, exploitation and psychological effects.

We know that in the first hours after the earthquake it is essential Guarantee:

  • Safe refuge for displaced families

  • Access to drinking water and food

  • Emergency basic supplies

  • Medical care and Psychosocial support for children

Acting quickly is key to protecting children and preventing the impact of the emergency from having long-term consequences.
